Albendazole

Albendazole is a medication used to treat worm infestations. Albendazole is effective against hookworm, tapeworm, whipworm, filaria, and roundworm.

Useful information

  • Worm infestations usually occur through eating infected food or drinking infected water.

  • You should wash your hands well before eating and cooking. You should wash raw vegetables and fruits before eating them.

  • It is advisable to keep your fingernails short and clean. Wash your hands thoroughly after gardening, playing in soil, or after using the washroom.

Albendazole is effective against worms, larvae, and eggs of parasites.

Albendazole prevents the uptake of nutrients by the parasite. This depletes the energy of the parasite and results in its death.

You may experience:

  • Nausea

  • Vomiting

  • Headache

  • Dizziness

You may eat normally while taking albendazole. Not only that, but you can take albendazole with meals for better absorption.

If you forget to take your prescription, take it as soon as you remember.

If you miss a dose, don’t take a double dose.

If your next dose is approaching, skip the missed dose and take the next one.

There are no restrictions on driving or operating machinery when taking albendazole.

Albendazole isn’t addictive.

Albendazole has no effect on sexual performance, fertility or the effectiveness of contraceptives.

If you are pregnant, you should inform your doctor or pharmacist before taking albendazole.

Albendazole can be used when breastfeeding. It is not known to be harmful to babies.
