Budesonide (inhaler)

Budesonide inhaler is used to treat inflammation (itching, swelling, redness) of your airways. Budesonide is usually inhaled and useful in asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder (COPD).

Budesonide can be an inhaler, nasal spray, tablet to swallow, or rectal foam for application in the anus in ulcerative colitis (inflammation of the large intestines).

Useful information

  • Asthma is a condition where the airways are very sensitive to smoke, allergens or cold air. Upon exposure to these substances, the airways constrict and results in difficulty in breathing.

  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder is a disease that causes inflammation of the airways and damages the lungs.

It is common in people who smoke or people have been exposed to dust and smoke over a long time.

  • Budesonide does not provide instant relief to breathing difficulties. It reduces the frequency of attacks.

Budesonide is similar to hormones (corticosteroid) produced in the body. Budesonide reduces the immune (defense) response in the airways. It makes the airways less sensitive to irritating substances.

You may experience:

  • Oral thrush (fungal infections in the mouth and throat)

  • Dry mouth

  • Cough

  • Hoarseness of voice
